Admission requirements
Freshman applicants should be on track to complete their state-mandated high school graduation requirements before the intended term of enrollment. Strongly recommend at least 16 academic units of study in high school: English (4), math (3), natural science (3), social science or history (3), and elective (3). Applications are reviewed holistically, with close consideration given to cumulative, unweighted GPA and individual coursework. Northland is test-optional, and students are not required to submit ACT or SAT scores to be considered for admission but may submit them if they feel it enhances their application.
How AP/IB credits are handled
Scores of 3 or better on most AP exams will be accepted for credit. Scores of 4 or better on higher-level IB exams will be accepted for credit.
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs include art, biology, business, chemistry, climate change studies, climate science, ecological restoration, English, fisheries and wildlife ecology, forestry, gender and women’s studies, geology, graphic design, history, humanities, mathematical sciences, Native American studies, natural resources, outdoor education, psychology, sociology, and social justice, sustainable community development, teacher education, water science, and writing. Pre-professional studies in law, health care, veterinary medicine, and ministry. Dual degree engineering program offered in conjunction with Washington University in St. Louis and Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan.
